Britannia Business Club

jaBritannia's Business Club was formed in 2008 as an after-school program focusing on entrepreneurship. Working with Junior Achievement, a student company is formed every year with the help of business consultants, in hopes of making a profit. Students will brainstorm a business idea, create and design a product/service and use sound business fundamentals in the operation of their venture....all this while experiencing the risks and rewards of entrepreneurship. Our team of business consultants and sponsor teachers are as follows:

2016 - Wonderlust Candles

Wonderlust Candles was recognized at the SFU Beedie School of Business as one of the recipients of the Digital Marketing award. The company, consisting of 22 enthusiastic business students who specialized in the sale of candles featuring the 7 wonders of the world, were honoured to receive this recognition.

Indivdual awards went to Maelin Cheung who won the JA Award for Excellence and Leadership and Tahlia Ifada, who won the JABC Award for Oratory and Presentation skills. Maelin also was one of five recipients of the Keg Spirit Foundation Next Generation Leaders Forum award. Congratulations!

2015 - Corkulent

For the 4th time in 5 years, Britannia's Business Club won the coveted Junior Achievement CIBC Student Company of the Year award, which recognizes excellence in teamwork and cooperation, creativity and innovation, and outstanding planning and operation of a Student Venture company.

The company, Corkulent, consisting of 25 enthusiastic business students who specialized in the sale of unique cork plants, beat out dozens of high schools from throughout the province to win this honour. In addition, Corkulent won the award for Profit Performance for generating the most profit among JA companies.The company attended the Celebrate JA! event on Wednesday, June 10 at UBC Robson Square. Individual awards went to Angela Ngo, who won the JABC Award for Oratory and Presentation skills, and Oles Andrienko, who won the award for Excellence and Leadership. In addition, Lee Nipp, Business Education Department Head received the JA Outstanding Teacher award.

2014 - PSA

Britannia's 2014 Business Club, PSA, had an outstanding venture achieving an ROI of 563% for its shareholders, meeting over 90% of its company and department goals, and contributing $500 to CLICK and Cause We Care.

PSA, which is an acronym for Picture, Save, and Achieve, had a goal to educate individuals on financial literacy; we believed that by picturing your future and saving your money wisely, you could achieve your goals. We invite you to visit the PSA website!...and watch our video here!

At the Celebrate JA! event held at the SFU Beedie School of Business on June 3, 2014, Lisa Liang was recognized with a certificate for Excellence in Leadership. In addition, Connie Guan, Dinece Lau, and Jennifer Fang were recognized for their endeavours in the Titan Challenge. Congratulations!

2013 - Quenched

Quenched, was named the CIBC Student Company of the Year by Junior Achievement for the 3rd consecutive year, beating out dozens of schools and organizations in claiming this coveted prize.  Quenched generated a ROI of 114% and donated $500 to CLICK and the Vancouver Food Bank.  These young entrepreneurs created uniquely themed tumblers, one promoting school spirit and the other focusing on wellness, that were sold throughout the community and Granville Island.  In addition, Quenched received recognition for Best Shareholders' Report.  These awards took place at the Celebrate JA! event held on June 6, 2013 at the SFU Beedie School of Business.

Special congratulations go out to President Sariah Conor, who was recognized with a Leadership Certificate and the JABC Award For Oratory and Presentation Skills.  Sariah brought down the house at the BC Laureates Hall of Fame Gala Dinner where she spoke in front of many business professionals and special guests, including the Duke of York.  Rachel Bwishe, VP of Sales & Marketing, was also recognized with the Dr. Donald Rix 'Inspiring Business Excellence' Scholarship.

2012 - Raincouver

On June 7, 2012, at the SFU Beedie School of Business, Britannia's Business Club, "Raincouver" was awarded the coveted 2012 CIBC Student Company of the Year! This was the second year in a row that Britannia claimed this award.

Working with Junior Achievement, the student-led venture created a company which sold Vancouver-inspired umbrellas to the community. Reaching all of its goals, selling out its product line, donating $500 to two charities, and achieving an ROI of 102%, Raincouver proved to be an excellent learning experience for all students involved. Special congratulations go out to President Sally Zhao, who was awarded a Leadership certificate and Sariah Conor, who received the Dr. Donald Rix 'Inspiring Business Excellence' Scholarship. 2011 - B.EAST Apparel

 

beastOn June 8, 2011, Britannia's Business Club, B.EAST Apparel, was recognized at the SFU Segal Graduate School of Business as the CIBC Student Company of the Year in BC, beating out dozens of public and private schools throughout the province.

The student-led Junior Achievement company sold Britannia clothing to promote school spirit, along with East Van clothing, to promote the pride and resurgence of Vancouver's East Side, and proved to be a very successful venture.  By the time B.EAST Apparel closed its books in May, it had achieved a 60% Return on Investment to its shareholders, and donated $1000 to 3 charities:  CLICK, the David Suzuki Foundation, and the Red Cross Japan Tsunami Relief Fund.

In addition to capturing the evening's top award, B.EAST Apparel also won for Best Sales & Marketing Strategy, and Community Engagement.  To top off the evening, the company's president, Lisa Wong, received the Award for Excellence & Leadership, and represented BC at NEXT, Junior Achievement's international youth leaders' conference at Queen's School of Business in Kingston, Ontario. 2010 - Soijun

2010 bbc2010's edition of the Britannia Business Club, Soijun, sold eco-friendly stainless steel water bottles. After much brainstorming, the group decided on this product to address concerns regarding the environmental impact of plastic water bottles. The selling campaign proved to be a huge success, with our company donoting $500 to BC Children's Hospital.

Soijun was recognized at Junior Achievement’s “Celebrate JA!” event, held at the Segal Graduate School of Business on June 10th, 2010. The club was the recipient of the CIBC Student Venture Award for Environmental Stewardship, beating out teams from throughout the province.

In addition, Karyn Tse was awarded a certificate as Runner Up for the Sales Leader of the Year award, and Winona So received the prestigious Kathy Barnett Memorial Scholarship, which is given to a young woman seeking post-secondary education to become an entrepreneur. Congratulations to all!

2009 - Britannia Republic

After much brainstorming and careful market research, the 2009 version of the Britannia Business Club decided to form a company called Britannia Republic that specialized in the distribution of high-end Britannia clothing, including T-shirts, hoodies, and sweatpants.

Kevin Qu was named the 2009 recipient of the Junior Achievement of BC Sales Leader of the Year award for the second consecutive year. Congratulations!

2008 - Brit & Co.

2008 bbcThe inaugural year of the Britannia Business Club was an overwhelming success. Specializing in the distribution of high-quality Britannia clothing, Brit & Co. enjoyed selling to the entire Britannia family of students, teachers, and alumni.

At the Celebrate JA! Awards Night held in June, 2008, Britannia & Co. was awarded the 2008 CIBC Student Venture Award for Team Spirit & Cooperation. In addition, Kevin Qu was named the 2008 recipient of the Junior Achievement of BC Sales Leader of the Year award. Congratulations!
