We are pleased to announce that Andrew Arida, Associate Registrar and Director of Student Recruitment and Undergraduate Admissions at the University of British Columbia will be speaking about the value of an IB education based on research conducted by UBC in recent years.  This informative session is open to all parents and students who are interested in the Britannia IB Program in Grade 11, but students currently in IB 11 or 12 at Britannia are also welcome to attend with their parents.  Applications for Venture and IB will be available at the meeting or can be downloaded from the IB/Venture section of our website.  The deadline for receipt of IB applications is Friday, January 26, 2018.

IB Applicant Testing will take place on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 6:00pm in rooms 215/216 (on the main floor).  Entry can be had by the double doors at the North-East corner of the school near the Britannia Community Centre swimming pool.  Please bring a pencil, an eraser and a pen.  There will also be a sign up sheet where IB Diploma applicants will be able to select an interview time from the February 6th, 7th and 8th interview dates.

A Brief Overview of Britannia's IB Program

IB logoThe IB provides an excellent preparation for university study.  The program offers significant challenge and tremendous opportunity for students of good ability.  Over the two years of the program students will develop their communication skills to be able to write at a university level, and to study some material generally reserved for first-year classes.  Students can take a full Diploma program or do some IB courses as partial program candidates.  Diploma students will develop their research skills through the production of an Extended Essay in a topic of their choice related to one of their courses, participate in the Theory of Knowledge class (a broad-based investigation of “knowing”), and take part in a variety of Creative, Active, and Service activities as a part of their CAS program.
Universities value the IB experience and will offer early admission and scholarships for good scores, including a full year of credit at some institutions. More, the student who completes an IB diploma will find university much easier and start off their post-secondary careers on a successful note with less stress.  It’s as if you brought much of first-year university into the last two years of high school!
If you or a friend is looking for more out of school then the IB may be for you.  Applications are available online or in the IB office at Britannia. Applicants will undergo a critical thinking test and a writing exercise in February.  Diploma applicants will also undergo an interview.  Take a risk; you’re worth it!
