Our annual IB/Venture trip to Loon Lake was a soggy one this year, but it couldn’t dampen our spirits! In fact, it only made us work harder to find the fun. Not only did we nature walk and create outdoor art, but some of us were even brave enough to jump in the lake. We got learn about ourselves, and our classmates – who plays a mean ukulele, who has the messy room, who snores, and who has the biggest mouth (based on the number of marshmallows they can stuff in there!) – and to reflect on what it means to be in the Venture and IB programs. With the Learner Profile as our guide, we were thinkers and communicators, risk-takers and inquirers, kept open minds, shared knowledge, were principled and caring of one another. We can’t wait to do it again next year!

The Tip Sheet for Surviving IB Exams (pdf) is well worth reading and implementing!
The Venture Program in grades 8 to 10, and the International Baccalaureate Program in grades 11 and 12, offer students at Britannia unique academic challenges. The IB program is recognized world-wide as the best preparation possible for university study. It includes a full slate of academic coursework, as well as preparation in research and essay-writing, and a commitment to extra-curricular activities through CAS. Students who complete the full Diploma program can obtain preferred admission and advanced credit at most universities. Once there they will find that the skills in communication and thinking they have gained from the IB will help them be successful from the very beginning.
The Venture program serves to prepare students for the demands of the IB program in grades 11 and 12. Courses include expanded content, as well as the skills necessary to be creative and critical thinkers who can communicate ideas effectively and efficiently.
Students interested in the IB program are strongly recommended to join the Venture Program no later than grade 10. Students must make application to both programs. We are looking for a good academic record, a solid work ethic, and a commitment to activities outside the classroom.
Two challenges that IB and Venture students must deal with to be successful are time management and effective study skills Here are two documents that we feel provide a good start in developing and practicing those skills.
